Spark plugs are only used in petrol engines - in a diesel car, these are replaced by glow plugs (also known as diesel spark plugs) which have similar functionality. In a petrol car, a spark plug sparks an ignition; in a diesel car, a glow plug heats air in order to kickstart the engine.
The glow plug heats the combustion chamber, which enables the car to start faster. If you've noticed a flashing glow plug light on your dashboard it’s advisable to check over your vehicle’s manual to find out what the problem might be.
